Who's best to help with injuries?
Our head coach is often asked about physiotherapy for existing and new injuries. The recommendation is:
- Tonic Health and ask for Michael Morris. Based in Spalding https://michaelmorris.clinicsense.com
What type of goggles should I have?
Goggles are very subjective to each swimmer as everyone has a different face and some goggles work for some, but not others. Below are some helpful tips for finding suitable goggles for swimmers:- If you're attending an Open Meet or other larger competition there will often be a "Swim shop" so you may be able to try some on for fit
- Clear lenses are preferable to mirrors, two reasons for this, firstly some swimmers struggle gaging distance at the turns with mirrors and in some pools they make everything a lot darker. Also it is better for the Coach's if we can see the swimmers eyes when we are talking about stroke correction etc.
- Following on from the above point, Goggles have different tints and the tints are based on the amount of light to let in. For bright lights/outdoor summer swimming, a dark tint is good, but the negative impact is seeing underwater in an indoor swimming pool. A medium tint is the ideal or no tint as these will give the swimmers better vision underwater in an indoor swimming pool
- Double straps, or as a better description, a single strap that loops through the sides of the goggles to create a double at the back of the head are far superior to a single band
- Following on from point 2, the clip to hold the strap should be at the back of the head and have a "slot" system for adjustment. This along with fit is probably the most important
- As for brands, Arena, Maru, Nike, Speedo and TYR all produce quality goggles that conform to the recommendations outlined. You will need to shop around to get the best deal
Our Head Coach recommends Arena Air Speed Mirror goggles, which can be purchased directly from him for £25. These goggles are acceptable for both training and competitions.
What equipment do I need?
You can find out which equipment you need on our Kit List page.
Why did my swimming result show I was DQ'd?
DQ are disqualifications and are announced at the events as Technical Infractions. Only qualified officials at an event can log these. There are a variety of reasons why and we have a page explaining about Disqualification/Technical Infraction Codes to help understand the reason and learn from the mistake made!
